I was so excited to jump onto Facebook and craft live with everyone last night and share a fun card that I actually CASE’d from the new Mini Catalogue. CASE’ing (copy’ing and selectively editing) is a fun way to craft when the mojo is lacking or you just need some fresh crafty inspiration. I changed up my idea a little bit and used it to explore some watercolour techniques.
Watercolour techniques are so much fun and I love to play around with them and find ways to use them on a variety of different projects in new ways. I do love colouring with Stampin’ Blends but I love the organic look that colouring with ink and water can give, it just gives such a beautiful rich depth to the design.
Be sure to check out the bottom of the post where I have shared a link to the FREE PDF tutorial that you can download that includes a video replay of the Facebook Live. Feel free to like my Facebook Page where I go live every Friday night and craft live.
the finished card

Here is a look at the finished card when it all came together. You can actually see the card I CASE’d and got my inspiration from if you check out the catalogue PDF on page 71. I changed up the colour inspiration and went to town having fun with the new Glass Mat that you can earn FREE when you join my team during Sale-a-Bration (p.s. if you check out the video replay you will see just why having that glass mat is a must) – it was how I created that fabulous watercolour smooshed background with the Boho Blue which watercolour smooshing is one of my favourite watercolour techniques!
To check out how I did that download the free PDF tutorial linked below. I really wanted to combined the soft blues and browns with a slight pop of the bright from the Lemon Lime Twist and Parakeet Party.

a close up of the finished card

Here is a close up look at the finished card and the detail here. To colour the detailed focal image I actually heat embossed my image on some Basic White Thick cardstock in gold. Using heat embossing when watercoloring is a great way to contain the water and colour as it adds a light ‘ridge’ to help you stay in the lines! Great for people like me that love to colour out of the lines!
For the second of the watercolour techniques I used my Water Painters which come in three sizes (I used the smallest nib size) and applied my ink pad colours directly to my Glass Mat << can you tell I love my glass mat? The colours can be used straight off the mat and cleaned up so easily!! I used the Parakeet Party first and added darker highlights in Lemon Lime Twist. I repeated this with the nuts/cacao beans in Crumb Cake and Pecan Pie.
You can see in the detail how beautiful that faux leather trim with the beautiful shimmery gold through the leather looks as added detail on the card. The only tip I have with this trim is to try and only add one layer to avoid to bulk.
Instead of adding the Cork Rounds on this card I added Pastel Iridescent Gems which have added a beautiful sparkle!
a look at the pretty inside

I added some simple layered stamping and blending with some Pecan Pie to the inside of my card to add some accent and detail, along with some light spritzing using a Pecan Pie Stampin’ Write Marker. The beautiful textural stamps that come with the Nature’s Sweetness bundles are perfect for layering and building up some beautiful texture which I love.
I finished off the inside by adding a strip of speciality Designer Series Paper and a small strip of Pecan Pie cardstock.
