Welcome to part seven of the chain card swap series that I am sharing. Did you miss part six? Head on over here and check it out. I will be sharing eleven posts in this series and today is part seven.
What is a chain card swap? A group of people participate and it is similar to Chinese whispers where each of the participants designed a card which was then sent off to another of the participants which then CASE’d the card and sent it on so that when it gets sent back to the original creator it may look completely different to the original – how fun is that?
Today I am sharing a gorgeous card using the Stampin’ Up! Translucent Florals Bundle. I love the beautiful techniques that you can do with this gorgeous bundle. I wanted to try out some techniques with colouring vellum with Stampin’ Blends since as the bundle indicates the flowers and pieces in this bundle look gorgeous with a translucent effect.
Disclaimer: Vellum is retiring with this current catalogue and here in the South Pacific has indeed already sold out.
For this seventh blog hop, we are all sharing our cards that we CASE’d for Michele Jutrisa’s card. See below for a list of all the blogs and the beautiful projects where you can hop along and see where the card started and how it progressed as it moved along the chain. It is very cool to see the progression of a card along one of these chain card swap series. I was actually second in this chain so I was the first to CASE Michele’s lovely card!

Here is a look at my finished card. I loved the deep hue of the Pretty Peacock with the soft translucent look of those coloured flowers that were achieved by colouring vellum with the Stampin’ Blends. With touches of the Crumb Cake for some neutral tones and some bright and shiny sparkle with the beautiful More Dazzle Specialty Paper – the colours just sold me!
Here is a look at the beautiful colour palette…
the colour combination i used for this card…
a close up of the details and the colouring vellum technique
Here is a look at the beautiful details. I used a Pretty Peacock card base and some beautiful tone on tone layers of Pretty Peacock. It may not be obvious but my top layer on the card base is actually taken from the Delightful Florals Designer Series Paper which features a rich Pretty Peacock pattern.
I swiped some Pretty Peacock Ink over my card base which is one of my favourite techniques to add extra texture and detail/depth to my cards.
When it came to colouring vellum with the Stampin’ Blends I took two pieces of vellum and coloured two pieces large enough to die cut my leaves on once piece and another large enough for the petals. I have used Fresh Freesia and Lemon Lime Twist Stampin’ Blends for colouring the vellum.
Please note: When colouring vellum with markers, it is important that you use an alcohol based marker as the ink evaporates quickly and will dry on this non porous surface. A water based marker *may* dry but will take a very long time.
I have used some now retired thread which I frayed to add behind my focal point. Any fine thread would look beautiful here. I love pulling apart the finer threads in ribbon and quite often you can do this with most Stampin’ Up! ribbons.
a look at the inside of my card
Here is a look at the inside which I have decorated with some left over Designer Series Paper from the Delightful Florals pack – aren’t the colours stunning?
I added a touch of the More Dazzle Specialty Paper which allowed a glimpse of that to flow through from the card front. That beautiful big stamp was taken from the Translucent Florals stamp set which I have stamped in Pretty Peacock and spritzed with a Pretty Peacock Stampin’ Blend Marker.
I just love how this card turned out and I hope that I did Michele’s card justice. Be sure to hop along the blog below to see how the card started and changed during the chain card swap! It is best to start at the first blog and move your way along, so if you have started here you should head to Annette’s blog next.
