I love taking part in the amazing Stampin’ Fancy Friday challenges each month with a group of Stampin’ Up! Artisan Alumni. Such a beautiful group of crafters to be part of. This month we are being inspired by a gorgeous card sketch which is always such a fun challenge and starting point when card making. I loved this gorgeous sketch as it really challenged me creatively which is always fun when mixing things up and extending yourself out of your creative comfort zone. When you are next creating, give a card sketch a go, why not try this one and share it tag Stampin’ Fancy Friday over on Instagram.

the finished card using the “a little latte” suite
Here is a look at the finished card that I created. Generally I have a creative process when creating cards. Starting with a bundle, stamp set or suite that I want to create with I then choose colours, from there I start pulling in textures and will begin building layers. I love to mix and match layers and different items to vary depth and elements. I love to vary the elements I use on my cards to really create visual interest. For this particular design I decided to add some glitter (only a tiny bit), the foil, texture from the trim and some of the wooden swirl dots. I then varied my other elements laying and adhering some flat while adhering some on dimension.
All of this was done while varying colour tones between dark and lighter shades. This helps to really create balance on the design. I stuck to the basic layout design that is shown on the original card sketch.

a close up look at the details
The card sketch shows the main panel towards the right hand side with a bit of a ‘split’ design between the panels – well that is what I interpreted anyway and that is one of the things I love the most about card sketches…you can interpret them however you want. Card making is a creative process and creativity is what you make it! This design was something new for me. I mixed it up a little and decided to add Designer Series Paper and a speciality paper to this panel to use a bit of both and ‘mix it up’ between the patterns. This is a great ‘rule or idea’ when creating visual interest.
To help to create some more texture to my card I actually frayed the beautiful Polka Dot Trim that comes with this A Little Latte Suite and then added it back to the card. If you actually do this carefully enough you can actually preserve the dots, which is so cute! I added a Linen Thread Bow and some of those adorable Swirl Dots!
P.s. There isn’t much stamping on this card! Those coffee cups are cut straight from the Designer Series Paper! I love that the dies coordinate with the Designer Series Paper. Stampin’ Up! are smart cookies!
a look at the pretty inside
I added some more elements from the card front and some leftover Designer Series Paper to the card inside as well as some soft blending with some Pool Party Ink. The little coffee splodges – we will go with that being a word are added with some Lost Lagoon Ink.
Those little coffee beans are actually Designer Series Paper and have a matching die – adorable!
Don’t forget to pop on over to the Stampin’ Fancy Friday Facebook Page and check out the card sketch and the rest of the team and how they have used it to create some beautiful samples this month. Try out the card sketch and give it a go for yourself. We would love to see!
Until next time, happy crafting. xx
