Welcome to part eight of the chain card swap series that I am sharing. Did you miss part seven? Head on over here and check it out. I will be sharing eleven posts in this series and today is part eight.
What is a chain card swap? A group of people participate and it is similar to Chinese whispers where each of the participants designed a card which was then sent off to another of the participants which then CASE’d the card and sent it on so that when it gets sent back to the original creator it may look completely different to the original – how fun is that?
Today I am sharing a fun card using the Stampin’ Up! Carnival Treats Stamp Set which is actually a host stamp set from the current Mini Catalogue. Our host stamp sets aren’t available for purchase but instead available to purchase with Stampin’ Rewards when your order or workshop reaches over $250. For this card I had fun fussy cutting and playing with piecing the stamp together with multiple stamped images to get this fun colourful look!
For this eighth blog hop, we are all sharing our cards that we CASE’d for Monique Fiedler’s card. See below for a list of all the blogs and the beautiful projects where you can hop along and see where the card started and how it progressed as it moved along the chain. It is very cool to see the progression of a card along one of these chain card swap series.
cheryl hurst’s card that i case’d

Cheryl’s beautiful card featured some more subdued tones and one of my favourite colours – Pretty Peacock with the beautiful Earthen Textures Suite.
my finished carnival treats card

Here is a look at my finished card featuring the fun Carnival Treats stamp set. This stamp set is a whole load of cute fun but had me stumped for a little bit as I wanted to colour the images in a few colours but it was one solid stamp. There are a couple of techniques that you can use when you want to colour a solid stamp in multiple colours and that is; direct to stamp marker colouring/stamping or stamp the image multiple times and piece it back together. I chose to go with the latter (except for on that cute toffee apple – where I actually used some direct to stamp marker colouring for that fun look).
To achieve this I have actually stamped each donut twice; once in the icing colour and once in a light Crumb Cake. I then fussy cut out the icing carefully and placed this back on top of the Crumb Cake coloured donut with Stampin’ Dimensionals – there you have it a two toned stamped donut! You can see this technique repeated again on the fairy floss.
It’s as easy as that to get multi toned stamping without having a two step stamp!
my colour palette
I wanted a mix of bright and happy colours with a touch of the ‘subtle’ colours that reminded me of the fairy floss that you would find at a carnival. The Bubble Bath colour was perfect to imitate fairy floss and the Lemon Lolly reminded me of popcorn! I added a few other bright and happy colours for my colour palette and this Carnival Treats card was as bright and happy as a kid with a show bag at the carnival!
a look at the details

I chose to keep the layout the same as Cheryl’s card that I received to CASE with the background layers and the built up layers on top. For the very last layer on the top I actually chose to use some vellum that I had added some Lemon Lolly and Bubble Bath Stampin’ Blends too with a touch of rubbing alcohol. I love the dreamy look this gives to a background.
I embellished my card with some of the beautiful Herringbone ribbon which I coloured with the gorgeous Tahitian Tide Stampin’ Blends. If you want to have a good basic in your crafting stash – grab those white ribbons because you can alter them to be any colour with your Stampin’ Blends.
To finish the card off I embellished with some Rainbow Adhesive Backed Dots. These really do look like carnival candy!
taking a look at the pretty inside…

I added a bit of pretty to the inside with some leftover vellum fun that I created for the layer on the front and a touch of the Berry Burst Soft Shimmer Paper. So special and fun looking!
Some light blending with some Bubble Bath Ink and a touch of fairy floss really made this Carnival Treats card shine. This card was made to give to your very best friend with the sentiment “Thank You For Your Friendship”
I had so much fun with this card and I hope that you were able to get some inspiration. Be sure to hop along the blog below to see how the card started and changed during the chain card swap! It is best to start at the first blog and move your way along, so if you have started here you should head to Sharni’s blog next.
