I am so excited to bring you another week of a live video and free PDF. This week is another fun interactive card and a fun fold that I have never tried before called the hidden double flap card. I was drawn to this design recently when making birthday cards for my parents who turned sixty and seventy as it was a bit of a fun design that allowed space to add some beautiful photos/memorabilia.
Stay tuned for another post where I will share the alternative Take To The Sky version which I created for my father. In the mean time, I hope you enjoy seeing this beautiful card using the new Stampin’ Up! Country Woods Suite of products, and be sure to scroll to the bottom of this post to see the link to download the free PDF instructions.
the finished hidden double flap card
The beautiful new Country Woods Suite is one of my favourites from the new catalogue as it has such beautiful imagery, dies and that beautiful woodgrain paper is just so delightful! I really enjoyed featuring most of the components on my card and adding some texture with the new Eyelet 3D embossing folder. I have linked all the products at the bottom of this post which you can find in my online store.
When creating this hidden double flap card I was really inspired because I wanted a card design that would allow me to add some photos of my parents/family and I loved the design of this card with the hidden surprise you get when you open it up!
I wanted a bright and fresh colour palette so I have combined some of the new Summer Splash with Lemon Lime Twist and some pinks & purples. With a mixture of Stampin’ Blends I coloured my images combining some neutrals with fresh and bright pops of colour.
a close up of the details
Here is a look at the finished card where you can see all the texture and detail. I love adding embossing and adding some further depth and definition by adding some light ink blending over the top. It really makes that 3D texture pop!
I added some extra texture by adding some frayed ribbon and some hand stitching around the edge of my die cut circle. One of my favourite things to do is pull threads and ribbons apart for extra texture and a vintage vibe.
the magic of the hidden double flap mechanism
Here is a look at that hidden double flap card in all its glory. As you open the card these two opening card ‘flaps’ pull out from the side pocket as a bit of a surprise!
I used one of the darker woodgrain style patterns from the Country Woods Designer Series Paper to accent my background with a nice and dark texture. I have then used one of the lighter blue vintage wooden patterns to decorate my pocket and hidden flaps.
surprise! a cool interactive surprise
I added some extra decoration to the inside with some leftover die cuts and images which have also been coloured with Stampin’ Blends. The Happy Birthday sentiment was perfect to finish off the inside of the card.
a space to add a message or some hidden photos
These hidden mechanisms open up to reveal a space that can be used for either leaving a greeting/message or adding some extra decorations/memorabilia/photos or both!
I added an extra layer of Basic White cardstock which I have accented with some Basic Beige blending and some simple stamped images which I have coloured with Stampin’ Blends.
This project was so much fun to create this week and I hope that you were able to get some inspiration to make your own hidden double flap design. I would love to see what you create, so be sure to come over and join my Stampin’ Up! VIP group (everyone is welcome) and share what you have created.
