Sometimes a card needs to do more than just open… it needs to surprise. Today I’m sharing a fun swing out surprise card that I created during the Online Stamping Retreat in a class taught by the incredibly talented Bruno Bertucci & Kylie Bertucci. Their creative designs always push me to try something new, and this interactive fold was such a joy to make!

This project features the adorable Cute As A Bug suite from Stampin’ Up!, filled with playful characters, bright colours and whimsical details that make creating interactive cards feel extra fun. Find all the products I have used linked at the bottom of this post.

At first glance this card looks sweet and colourful — but once it opens, the magic happens! The panels swing out to reveal hidden layers, playful stamped images and a cheerful birthday scene. I love cards that tell a little story as they open, and this design does exactly that.

The mix of patterned paper from the suite helps create contrast between each section, while the bright gingham background ties everything together. Layering die cuts, stamped bugs and flowers adds dimension without overwhelming the fold.

One of my favourite parts of this card is how the Cute As A Bug suite makes colouring and embellishing feel effortless. The playful illustrations work beautifully with simple blends of colour, and the coordinating elements make it easy to build little scenes across each panel.

I kept the colour palette bright and happy to match the whimsical theme — perfect for birthdays, celebrations or just sending a smile.

This design was created during the Online Stamping Retreat, and I absolutely loved learning this fold from Bruno & Kylie. Their teaching style makes interactive cards feel achievable, even when the structure looks complex. If you ever get the chance to join one of their retreats — do it. You’ll walk away inspired and ready to try something new!

Interactive folds like this are such a fun way to elevate your card making. They don’t require lots of extra supplies — just a clever layout and a willingness to play. If you’ve been wanting to try something beyond a standard card base, this is a great style to experiment with.
