One of my favourite things about attending Online Stamping Retreat is stepping outside my usual creative comfort zone and learning new folds that really make a card feel special. This Pop-Out Angled Accordion card was inspired by a class taught by the incredibly talented Gina Hawley, and I absolutely loved the unique structure and interactive design.

Fun folds have always been something I gravitate towards — they turn a handmade card into an experience. When this design opened and revealed all the angled panels and layers, I knew I wanted to add my own twist and create a softer, floral-inspired version.

My Take on the pop out angled accordion card

For my version, I chose to work with the Fragrant Layers Bundle, pairing it with the beautiful Splash of Sparkles Specialty Designer Paper. I wanted the card to feel light, joyful, and full of colour, while still letting the fun fold structure be the star.

The layered florals gave me the perfect focal point for the front panel, while the angled accordion interior allowed me to mix patterned papers and soft colour blends throughout the design. I love how the gold accents and delicate florals bring a polished finish to the overall look.

Even though the structure was inspired by Gina’s class, experimenting with different products and colour combinations made the project feel completely my own — and that’s one of the best parts of creative events like Online Stamping Retreat.

Why I Love Fun Fold Cards

There’s just something magical about opening a card and discovering hidden panels, surprises, and movement. Fun folds are such a great way to:

• Add dimension without needing lots of bulky embellishments
• Showcase multiple papers and textures
• Turn a handmade card into a keepsake

The angled accordion fold especially creates beautiful layers that naturally draw the eye across the design.

I always leave Online Stamping Retreat feeling refreshed, inspired, and ready to try new ideas. Learning from other creators — like Gina Hawley — pushes me to explore folds and techniques I might not have attempted on my own. Huge credit to the retreat organisers and teachers for continually sharing such amazing creative inspiration.
