I was excited to jump on live over on my Facebook on the weekend and share this fun card that I had been experimenting with and learning how to make. Designing this card was so much fun and I had a great time playing around with some current and also some new & upcoming products when creating this design to make a bright and happy rotating circle card.
I was inspired to create one of these after seeing an Instagram Reel pop up from this lovely lady. She had shared two cards of a similar style recently and I was so curious how to make one.
I also shared in my video a French pop up book that my son owns that has a similar mechanism. Pop up books are the coolest places for interactive card ideas, check out the replay of my live video to check out the cool pop up book I shared!
After some playing around in the craft room here is what I came up with – be sure to scroll to the bottom of the post where you will find a link to the FREE PDF tutorial for my card for the week.
my finished rotating circle card – attention shoppers!
Here is a look at the finished card! You can see here it has a window design and it’s cool because you decorate the inside of the card while decorating the card front – it’s a two for one!
I wanted to use the brand new upcoming Attention Shoppers Bundle that will be in my Stampin’ Up! Online Store on May the 1st. This stamp bundle is so much fun and I was drawn to the unique style of the set but also the idea of this being a great theme to give cards to my customers and my Stampin’ Up! team! Who doesn’t love to treat themselves?
I did learn a couple of tips whilst making my original prototype and I would definitely NOT recommend adding more than one layer on the front of your card or the left hand side of the card inside as a die does not like to run through too many layers. If you do want a layer around the edge, I would recommend cutting the middle out of the cardstock and just having a ‘frame’ layer.
the rotating circle card mechanism & how it works
Here is a look at the fun card opened and on display! You really need to check out the video to see this card in action as photos just don’t do this kind of card justice! It really is so much fun, especially because the large and small circles actually rotate opposite ways!
Another tip that I learned when making this card was to not add embellishments anywhere else on the mechanism layer – it will catch on anything else you add. Stick to the mechanism only!
some close ups of the finished detail
Here is a close up look at both the front of the finished card and the inside mechanism (click on the photos to make them bigger). I really went to town with the colours on this card. I actually based the colour palette on the colours seen in the Bright & Beautiful Designer Series Paper which were the new core colours we saw in last year’s Annual Catalogue. They are so beautiful, bright & happy.
I stuck to silver embellishments as I thought that tied in nicely with the silver of the trolley and so I added some of the Silver Trim and some silver Sparkle Gems.
no where to write? no problem!
Sometimes the down fall of these designs is that it eliminates a space to write, that was no problem as I just added a panel onto the backside of my card with a layer of Fresh Freesia and Basic White with some simple stamping and ink blending.
This gave a space for a simple message to be written.
an alternative rotating circle card
I could not decide if I like the diagonal stripes or horizontal stripes better? They are both so fresh and beautiful. I made these two versions of the card and love them both.
This fun fold design also works well with Designer Series Paper that is directional as it is easy to pop the circle back in place on the front and have it still work in it’s directional pattern.
a close up look
I added some fussy cut detail on this card with those sentiments. I loved the bold statement that the white on black gave but I wanted to eliminate as much black as I could so I fussy cut a simple border around each sentiment to add to my card.
a couple more images of the rotating circle card
A couple more images close up of the second variation on the rotating circle card. I am already working on a few more because I won’t lie – I am little obsessed with this card. An idea is floating around my head of a variation with the wine bottles that also come as part of this Attention Shoppers bundle.
I hope that you enjoyed my project this week and will give one of these fun rotating circle card designs a go! They really make for a fun card!
