I have really enjoyed playing with slimline cards lately, in fact I shared one just recently for my Stampin’ Fancy Friday card, you can see it here.
I have once again shared the the Slimline Card Templates so that you can have the metric measurements for both the card and the custom envelope to recreate your own slimline card designs. Having the slimline card templates handy means that you recreate your own, particularly the envelopes as Stampin’ Up! did have their own slimline envelopes at one point but they were not sized to metric standards, so yep today is another share of another slimline style card but today is also another exciting theme and so please do read on…
#FABInstahop – my favourite childhood story
I am so excited to be participating in my second #FABInstaHop’s
This month was a particularly exciting one for me because it was all about gathering inspiration from our favourite children’s book! This was totally up my alley – Diagon Alley to be precise. Does that give you a hint where this blog post is going? I was a total book worm as a child and it wasn’t uncommon to find me wrapped in a blanket in my bed with my head in a book!
I was seven years old when my first memory of Harry Potter existed. It was 1997 – the year Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was published! I was in grade two here in Australia and our teacher read us this book as our classroom story, literally magical! From then on, the magic of Harry Potter grew. I have never stopped loving the magic of the wizarding world – in fact I would love to go and do the Warner Bros Studio Tour in London!
Can you see I could talk about it for hours?
When I saw the #FabInstaHop theme I thought of the Let’s Go Shopping bundle and those cute little shops and thought of the potential of recreating some of Diagon Alley! I knew I would need to make it a slimline card to fit my shops across the length of my card and would be limited to a few of my favourites!
P.s. This just would not be a complete Harry Potter themed post without sharing a couple of my favourite quotes…apparently I love a good Albus Dumbledore quote…J.K. Rowling – you are a wise woman.

Here is a link to two Slimline Card Templates for both the actual slimline card itself and a custom envelope to fit the slimline card. These are sized in metric size with metric measurements.
owl post anyone? a little look at my custom envelope
A look at the custom envelope that I made for my card.
I have used a sheet of Early Espresso 12×2″ cardstock to create my custom envelope. It was so much fun to use the Alphabest Stamp Set and heat emboss is gold to create my very own “Owl Post”. I am sure that any Harry Potter lover would appreciate getting some “Owl Post” in the mail.
you are such a sweet treat (harry potter) card
Here is a look at the finished card. I used the brand new Exposed Brick 3D embossing Folder on my background piece along with waterolouring and Blending Brush techniques. It was an effort of building up a lot of colour. I was really trying to achieve a moody and vintage style tone. Using some Pebbled Path, Crumb Cake, Gray Granite and Pecan Pie to achieve the coloured background. To complete the background I also spritzed it with some various Stampin’ Write markers in neutral tones.
The brick style pattern looks fantastic paired with the Let’s Go Shopping Bundle with the shops as it impersonates a brick wall behind the shops.
This is a slimline easel style card. I am not sure if I have seen one before, but I have certainly seen and made standard sized ones myself. I liked the idea of the finished card being and easel and standing on display.
These style cards are super easy to make and only take a standard sized card where you simply score the front in half and then cut another piece of cardstock the same size as the card front and adhere only the front score. I will have to do a tutorial soon! They are a lot of fun to make.
a little close up (and a look at honeydukes)
The actual shops are what took the most time on this card. It was a lot of deliberation between which Diagon Alley shops I would include and which Stampin’ Up! colours would represent the shops! Wow, talk about a lot of deliberation!
I knew that I absolutely wanted to include Honeydukes though! Who wouldn’t include a sweets shop and the Let’s Go Shopping bundle already had the cutest sweets store.
I had to make up and mix a few of the colours and they are probably open to a bit of artistic expression there.
The main colours I chose for Honeydukes are; the door and window frames coloured in Lost Lagoon with the roof lines a mixture of Bubble Bath and Flirty Flamingo and then I painted the actual store in a mix of Pebbled Path and Gray Granite.
PLEASE NOTE: the actual store signs I have used off printed assets from the internet and mounted on cardstock. I wish I could draw/paint that well. *wink*
another little close peek and my personal favourite place – flourish and blott’s – you will find me here.
My other absolute non negotiable favourite place would be Flourish and Blott’s, the bookstore! You will always find me at a bookstore, in fact I was in one today!
I loved painting the bookstore, the rich greens were delightful.
I made it super easy on myself with all the stores by heat embossing in black because when it comes to watercolour the embossed lines make it harder for the colours to bleed! << TOP WATERCOLOURING TIP!
I chose to watercolour the Flourish and Blott’s store in a mixture of Pretty Peacock and Shaded Spruce and then add some Pebbled Path and Crumb Cake to the top. The beautiful Let’s Go Shopping bundle was perfect because the stamps already had a bookstore! Watercolouring the books was a load of fun and I coloured these in a mixture of reds and neutral tones!
I also added some of the beautiful greenery die cuts because they really added some texture and tone!
Lastly I just wanted to add the beautiful Quidditch Store, Quality Quidditch Supplies. Now I will admit the Let’s Go Shopping bundle does not come prepared with broomsticks…I don’t know why?
I did have a go at drawing/painting and I will admit that is not my strong point but I am going to go with freestyle! *haha*
I loved combining a mixture of Real Red and Cherry Cobbler for the beautiful store for this one and marbling the store front window with some Smoky Slate.
I added the beautiful little sign out the front and it was complete!
a look at the fun fold (tent fold) – slimline style
Here is a look at how the tent fold works. Who wouldn’t want this on display after they receive it? I know I’m a Harry Potter fan and this one would have pride of place!
All those little shops and the cute little signs are so much fun. There was a huge sentiment…just a little “You are Such a Sweet Treat” and a little “Hello” on the other side as there are shop signs and I figured this would be a cute card to give to a friend and doesn’t need to have a particular ‘reason’.
I added some of other cute die cut accessories as well to finish off the card, including the street lamps die cut in gold and the beautiful little bench seat to sit outside Honeydukes. I also added a beautiful little shop shade cloth for Flourish & Blotts.
Finally to embellish I have added a Linen Thread bow and some of those GORGEOUS Adhesive Backed Sparkle Gems – they are magnificent – magical even!!
lastly a look at the inside – why decorate inside your cards anyway? my opinion…
The inside just had to be decorated – how could it not be?
This little inside layer can easily be taken from the leftover piece from the bottom which you will see on the slimline card templates – there is always a leftover piece – if you cut say .3cm off each side roughly or however much of a border you want to give yourself – it makes the perfect layer!
Also – because it is a slimline style card, you can see the bottom portion of it when the card it folded into an easel.
You do require a piece to be placed for the card to sit up onto to remain in easel position. I have used this little ‘hello’ sentiment label and adhered using Stampin’ Dimensionals for this purpose.
Using lots of Crumb Cake with a Blending Brush for a vintage vibe for the card on the inside and then I added some more of that gorgeous greenery in Shaded Spruce to finish off the card and which helped to add some more magic!
I hope that you got some inspiration from my card share today and had fun seeing yet another slimline style card from me & enjoy the slimline card templates that I provided.
I would love to see some of your slimline cards. Be sure to come and share them with me over on my Facebook page.
Until next time, Crafty hugs. xx
