It’s time for another challenge at the Global Design Project and this week it is another fabulous sketch! I love sketches because they really do start off my creative thinking process and I just start grabbing products and I am ready to go! This week I really wanted to play with the Paper Florist Dies! I have had them in my stash and ready to go for a little while and I have been busting to have a play!
My card that I created this week to feature them is pretty much all the things I love; bold, bright, dimensional, layered and over the top! When I saw the sketch for this week’s challenge my brain just ticked and I thought I could add a scattering of these cute flowers scattered over the large expanse of space and so I did just that!
These cool dies really do allow you to become your own florist with paper! I have shared some tips and tricks of how I created my own paper flowers in the post today.

a look at the finished card
Here is a look at the finished card. Bold, bright & beautiful. When I held up my finished card my first thought was WOW – I really do love Lemon Lime Twist. Lemon Lime Twist is actually a colour that was returned with this last Annual Catalogue and was originally a retired In Colour that I was so sad to see go. It was so exciting that it was released back as a core colour and I have noticed that the last few cards I have made have all featured this colour – it has definitely made a return in my craft room!
To begin creating my card I grabbed the beautiful Paper Florist Dies with my chosen colour combination, grabbed a bunch of paper scraps and got die cutting. It was easiest for me to cut piles of a large combination of each set of dies – the more the merrier! I wasn’t quite sure what I was creating at first so I wanted to have choices to ‘build’ from.
Here is a little look at the Paper Florist Dies and why they are so awesome. You can literally build a garden, build a bouquet or build a whole field of flowers!
Here’s a little look at the dies and what each is for…

a close up look at the details of those flowers cut from the paper florist dies…
Here is a close up look at the finished card and all that detail. When I was building my flowers I decided to create some without dimension using liquid glue to piece them together, however with some I have used some Stampin’ Dimensionals. I love to vary heights and dimension when I create as I believe that this helps to move the eye between subjects and is a great design technique to create more interest on a card.
I also created the fun “fluffy centres” – can we can that is a technical term? *haha*
The way these come together naturally with the die they are a little bit too dimensional so I have actually cut them down. To do this I simply cut the finished cut cut piece a little bit slimmer whilst still maintaining enough edge so that it has the ‘join’ to hold all the ruffles together. These make the cutest flower centres and look so adorable all ruffled.
I won’t lie – this card will probably need some extra postage – or is best given in person.
When creating my flowers I have also added some extra detail by using a Blending Brush and adding some tone on tone ink to my die cuts. This helped to add some extra definition to each piece. This does take time and patience, especially when working with so many die cuts, however if you love binge watching Netflix – this is the card and technique for you!
a little look at the inside…
Here is a look at the inside of the card. I finished it all off by adding some more of that gorgeous Designer Series Paper and “disco ball” paper to the inside and some left over die cuts.
With a Blending Brush I did add some more Lemon Lime Twist in the corner and a little bit of spritzing with a Pretty Peacock Stampin’ Write Marker. Those colours together are beautiful.
I was going to add a sentiment on the inside but decided to keep it blank. The royal friendship was enough and this card is sure to wow and dazzle the friend I give it to! I always like to leave plenty of room for a handwritten message as those who know me will know that I love to write an essay. Being very heartfelt and soppy is definitely part of who I am, sorry not sorry in advance.
I hope that you got some inspiration from today’s card share and my share of these amazing Paper Florist Dies.
They are definitely a product to add to your next order not only because they are amazing but also because they are so customisable. You can cut flowers out of any colour or texture. The possibilities are pretty endless. You could also watercolour flowers by cutting them out of watercolour paper – so many options! I would love to see what you make.
