I had a lot of fun playing around with some techniques recently and one of the requests when I reached out on my Facebook Page recently was about watercolour techniques. I was experimenting and playing around with a really easy baby wipe technique great for applying colours easily to a card and had a whole lot of fun! It is super easy to achieve with just baby wipes (non alcohol and fragrance free is best) and any colours of re-inkers you like!
I decided to combine my experimenting with the new Thoughtful Wishes bundle and the fun Thoughtful Moments Hybrid Embossing Folder that I have been itching to play with. See the end of this post for a downloadable PDF tutorial of how to make these projects.
the finished ‘hello’ card using the baby wipe technique
Here is a look at the first card that I made using this baby wipe technique using quite a warm colour palette. I love this colour palette combined with the gold, it feels so bold but heart warming.
This baby wipe technique used on the watercolour paper to blend the colours together is so effective. I have shared down below how to achieve this easy technique but essentially all it takes is choosing your colour palette, gathering the matching re-inkers and adding 1-2 drops of each colour to a fresh baby wipe and then using the wipe, blend these together in segments until you achieve this beautiful blended watercolour look.
I stamped over the top of the finished colouring with Versamark Ink to achieve a subtle but fun watermarked stamping look.
the colour palette i chose
Here is a look a the colour palette I chose for my card which is a mixture of pink/orange/yellow tones. I added gold onto my finished card to add something a little bit extra and dazzling.
a close up look at the details
Here is a close up look at the finished card where you can see some more of the details. You can see here that I also added some additional stamping to my background with the ‘splatter’ stamp and the corresponding colours on each section. This is a really fun way to add subtle texture.
I added a heat embossed foliage piece in gold and watercoloured this using a mixture of Blackberry Bliss & Calypso Coral ink colours.
I embellished my card with some of the Calypso Coral coloured pearls and some looped Linen Thread.
My sentiment “Hello” is taken from the Thoughtful Moments Hybrid Embossing Folder which I inked in Memento Black before embossing/die cutting. To colour my sentiment I used a mixture of Peach Pie and Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Blends only to the raised parts of the sentiment.
a look at the inside
I added some light blending with a mixture of Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie and Calypso Coral to the inside of my card with some more stamping that I used on my card front.
I kept the inside layers simple with Basic White card layers.
another card variation using the baby wipe technique
Here is a look at a second card that I made using the exact same baby wipe technique this time using a different cooler but still bright colour palette.
I changed up this card and used the Silver Glimmer Paper instead of the gold accents and changed up the die cut image this time stamping it in Memento Black and using a mixture of Pool Party and Lemon Lime Twist Blends to add colour to the image.
the colour palette for card two
Here is a look at the fun and bright colour palette that I used for my card. This colour palette gives off a cooler tone thanks to the blues & greens.
a close up look at the details
I used exactly the same techniques on this card just changing up the colours and a couple of things. Sometimes it is fun to make a variation of a card in different colours just to see the difference that colour can make to a project.
For my sentiment for this card I chose to use the same hybrid embossing folder but used a different sentiment and coloured this one with a combination of the light and dark Lemon Lime Twist Stampin’ Blends.
a look at the inside
I chose to decorate the inside of this card exactly the same simply replacing the colours with the cooler tones in blue and green.
The baby wipe technique that I explored using on these cards that I have featured this week was so much fun and so easy! I hope that you enjoy my card samples and the video + PDF. I’d love to see what you make! Please head over and join my VIP Facebook Page where I love seeing what everyone makes.
