I had so much fun crafting live on my Facebook Friday the other night and I am bit late sharing this post with you after a busy weekend celebrating my younger sister’s University graduation (stay tuned for a crafty share from that celebration!). On Friday I had a blast creating this background stamp easel card using the new Doggone Friendly background stamp from the new Mini Catalogue. I am a complete dog lover with my two Golden Retriever babies so naturally I had to have this stamp!
I decided to combine a few techniques with this background stamp easel card and use some fun watercoloring with a fun fold to really feature this stamp and show off all these cute dogs!
Be sure to check out the bottom of the post where I have shared a link to the FREE PDF tutorial that you can download that includes a video replay of the Facebook Live. Feel free to like my Facebook Page where I go live every Friday night and craft live.
the finished background stamp easel card!

Here is a look at the finished background stamp easel card. To be honest when I decided on using the Doggone Friendly stamp and sat down at my craft desk on Friday night, I had absolutely no idea of a card design. I let my creativity take me to having fun watercoloring these adorable doggies!
Dogs are totally my jam, definitely a dogaholic here! I have two gorgeous Golden Retrievers- Loki & Thor. If you haven’t met them on my Stampin’ Up! adventures or any of my live videos yet – they actually feature at the end of the live video for this video (catch them on the replay) but here they are…

a close up look at all the watercoloured doggies…

The Doggone Friendly background stamp allowed me to go to town with the Water Painters and a load of different ink colours and just have fun painting and colouring loads of different dogs. I kind of “guessed” some of the breeds and colours. Some of the colours I have used I have popped in the supplies list but you could use whatever colours you like. I used some Balmy Blue in the leftover spaces just to fill in the gaps.
To add some embellishment I wanted to keep it simple but add a little bit of ‘something’ so I pulled the gorgeous hearts in from the beautiful Bee My Valentine bundle from the new Mini Catalogue. These actually pair with the coordinating punch and so I used both the big and small heart and used both a full strength and a stamped off softer version of the Wild Wheat.
I finished off my card with some gold sequins from the Pastel Adhesive Backed Sequins and some of the gorgeous Gold Faux Leather Trim <<< this stuff is seriously amazing – it is on the thicker side – but I’ve only added one strip of it and it’s worth it!
a look at how the background stamp easel card works…

Here is a look at the how the easel card sits – isn’t it gorgeous and it really shows of those watercolored dogs and lets the artwork shine when it sits on display. The background easel card literally becomes an easel simply by adding some kind of embellishment to the centre of the inside panel for the front panel to ‘sit’ up on! In my case I added some more of those Wild Wheat hearts adhered with some Stampin’ Dimensionals. Gorgeous!
just because…

For the sentiment I actually used a gorgeous saying from an Online Exclusive set – the Soft Sayings stamp. This was a virgin stamp in my stash and I am so glad I used it because it’s gorgeous! It’s the perfect size literally for a portrait card! It was bold and beautiful and the perfect sentiment for this card!
Don’t forget about the Online Exclusives. These are not featured in any printed publications and can only be found in the online store here.
a look at the inside of the easel card – a place to write…

Here is a final look at the card showing the inside of the card fully open and on display. If it were me, I would only add my ‘writing’ to the recipient in the top half to only show it hidden when the card were propped up as an easel but this photo shows the card fully opened.
The cool thing about this card is that it folds down to be a normal card size so that it fits in a normal envelope!
I hope that you got some inspiration from my card share today and were inspired to make a background stamp easel card or even just an easel card!
