Hi there and welcome to my first blog post for 2019.
Gosh it’s weird to type that as a year, how the years are just flying by these days. My little boy starts school in just a few short weeks. It’s feels crazy saying that!
A new year means a BRAND NEW catalogue for Stampin’ Up!
January is the time our absolutely awesome Occasions and Sale-a-Bration catalogues come out and can I just say, they have blown me away again this year!
When this catalogue was first released (I was lucky to see it in November at convention) I saw this Best Catch stamp set and knew I just HAD to get it as my Dad is an avid flyfisherman.
I wanted to colour a rainbow trout and was inspired by the lovely co-founder of Stampin’ Up! Shelley Gardener’s beautiful colouring that I saw at Onstage.
This is what inspired this card, paired with the gorgeous new Crackle Paint Background Stamp

Here’s a look at the finished card…
I am really happy with how it turned out. I was die cutting the ‘reeds’ and was also inspired by Shelley Gardener, with clear embossing on Crumb Cake Cardstock and die-cutting for a ‘wet’ look and then tearing to the core of the Crumb Cake for some more rough ‘suede’ looking reeds.
I have done quite a few techniques on this card, so yes it did take a while, but I think it’s so worth it.
All my stamped elements are done so with copper embossing to help with the watercoloring and staying in the lines. I didn’t always stay within the lines, but that is ok, I think it adds to the rustic look!
I copper embossed the background with the Crackle Paint stamp and then sponged over the background with Crumb Cake ink. This was a lot of fun!
I have also distressed the type right corner and stapled this for some added texture.
I couldn’t be done without a finished inside, so I copper embossed the fisherman and added him die cut to the inside.
I can’t wait to give this to my Dad to use in his fly fishing business.

I love your Best Catch card! My husband is a fly fisherman and I would like to replicate your card if I may. Did you use sponge daubers to color the stamped images or did you use an aqua painter or blender pen? Thank you so much for sharing your talent!
