It’s time for another #FABInstaHop and this month we are featuring projects inspired by our favourite Christmas Carols. I had to have a think with this one and decided to just focus on the idea of Christmas Carols and sheet music and the one carol that came to mind was “Joy To The World” so I have incorporated aspects of that on my card. Knowing that we have the beautiful Merry Melody 3D Embossing Folder I was keen to play with the technique of double embossing and making some beautiful double embossed sheet music in gold. This gave a really elegant touch to my card.
I hope that you get some inspiration from my project today, be sure to scroll to the bottom where you can see a link to the post which features the rest of the project in the hop!
the finished card
Here is a look at the finished card. When I was thinking of ideas for my card and knew that I wanted to use the Saint Nicholas Bundle I though of St Nick walking through a door – the Warm Welcome stamp set (available only in the online store) is perfect for this!) St Nick peeking through the door is just too cute! The idea was that St Nick is bring “joy to the world, one home at a time”.
To create the background for my card base I lightly swiped a Pecan Pie ink pad over the Pecan Pie card to create some texture. For the main feature of my card and to create the double embossing feature I used the Merry Melody 3D Embossing Folder and embossed it on some Crumb Cake Cardstock. To create the heat embossing component of the double embossing technique, I simply lightly added some Versamark ink over the top before adding some Gold Embossing Powder.
Does’t it look stunning?
steps for double embossing
- Take your piece of cardstock and chosen embossing folder and run through your Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine to emboss.
- Take a Versamark Ink Pad and rub lightly over the surface the embossed cardstock to catch the raised/embossed edges of the cardstock.
- Over the top of an embossing tray or piece of scrap paper, lightly sprinkle some embossing powder over this piece. Lightly flick off excess powder. Heat set.
a look at some of the colour inspiration for this project…
This is just a look at a few of the colours featured in the card. There are a few more but these are the main colours. I have been a little bit addicted to using Wild Wheat at the moment because it is such a versatile colour that honestly looks great with everything!
a close up look at the details & that beautiful double embossing
Here is a close up look at the finished card and some of that texture and detail. It is actually quite hard to get a close up of the double embossing because of the shine from the gold embossing. It is so shiny and textures and is definitely a WOW card!
I added some strips of the Joy of Christmas Designer Series Paper and Vellum for some extra colour and layers and also embellished with some of the Wild Wheat Textured Ribbon layered back and forth a few times.
To add some extra embellishment, I die cut some of the holly in Old Olive and added some red Festive Pearls to the centre.
The sentiment is actually taken from the Alphabest Stamp Set and heat embosses in white on Pecan Pie and combined with a sentiment from the Saint Nicholas stamp sentiment to get a sentiment that I wanted.
a look at the inside of the card
Here is a look at the inside of the card where I used some leftover Designer Series Paper and a tiny off cut trimmed down from double embossing layer from the card front – I love using card scraps on the insides of my cards to help the designs flow through.
I added some Pecan Pie ink blending to the right hand side of my card before adding a sentiment stamped in Early Espresso and then some tiny elements stamped and die cut in the right hand corner.
I hope that you were able to get some inspiration from my card today and can see where I got my inspiration from my love of the Christmas Carol “Joy to the World”.
