Happy Friday everyone, I hope that you have had a wonderful week and are planning to have a wonderful weekend with some crafting planned.
It’s time for another Global Stampin’ Video Hop and this month it’s all about VELLUM! Vellum has been around since I first began crafting almost twenty years ago and I had used it in so many ways over that time. It’s always been such a great basic to have in your stash and there are so many things that you can do with it. I want to share two vellum techniques today that I found quite fun. I am going to share how I made a shaker card and one of my favourites in the last couple of years and that is to colour that vellum with Stampin’ Blends (alcohol markers) and rubbing alcohol. Vellum matches beautifully with one of the new bundles from the mini catalogue, Translucent Florals so I hope you enjoy the beautiful projects that I have to share with you today.
my global stampin’ video hop youtube video
I thought I would start with the video. I try to keep my videos short but my cards are always quite avid, even if I try to keep the steps short and do things ahead of time. Oopsie. I promise that there is lots of content and tips in here! I hope that you enjoy the video and be sure to check it out as there is links in the video above to all the other amazing GSVH team that took part where you can see LOADS of Vellum Techniques. WOW!!
the finished card & the first vellum technique
This was my finished card, well the first of two. When I am making a video I always like to make a prototype. To make my shaker frame I used a combination of the Deckled Rectangle Frame Dies and the Vellum Basics Specialty Designer Series Paper. This was the first of my Vellum Techniques. Quite often when making a shaker card we want to create a “window” and we think of acetate which is naturally translucent BUT vellum provides a translucent window also. It is similar to what I would call frosted glass on a shower screen door. I love the beautiful soft look it gives this card. I have filled my shaker card with the beautiful Iridescent Shaker Circles. They look stunning filled in there and make such a fun noise when they are shaking about.

a close up of finer details & the second vellum technique
I love the details on this card. Something I love that I didn’t mention above is the gold frame that I added to the shaker frame. I did this by using two sizes of the Deckled Rectangle Frames and some Gold Foil to cut out a frame that I adhered to really finish off that shaker window. It gave a nice finished edge. You can see how I did it in the video (linked above)
This is where you can see a close up of the second Vellum technique. Those vellum flowers. Rest my beating heart! The Translucent Florals Dies are a must! They look beautiful cut from vellum. This vellum technique is so easy to do. Grab some plain vellum, some Stampin’ Blends and some rubbing alcohol. I actually shared a lot about this Vellum technique and colouring the Vellum with the Stampin’ Blends and rubbing alcohol on a previous post, BUT you just don’t need to add the vellum to white card stock to maintain the translucent feel.
On my project here I enjoyed using the colour palette featured in the Designer Series Paper and sticking with; Fresh Freesia, Berry Burst, Parakeet Party and Pretty Peacock and gosh I love how they turned out!
a peek at the pretty inside
No naked insides as usual. I added some Fresh Freesia blending, a little bit of spritzing with a Berry Burst Stampin’ Write Marker and some leftover Delightful Florals Designer Series Paper and More Dazzle Specialty Paper.
I did purposely die cut an additional flower knowing that I would want to add one to the interior of my card because I always know that traditionally I love the card design to flow through to the inside of my card.
the second card featuring vellum techniques shown on the video
Here is a look at the second card and feature of the video. This card is pretty much identical other than having a different coloured card base. Berry Burst instead of Blackberry Bliss and a different Designer Series Paper as a feature – I had to mix it up some where.
the colour palette that inspired my projects…
To be honest I think it was mostly the colours that sold me on the paper – they are STUNNING! This Designer Series Paper is limited edition – meaning once it’s gone – it is gone.
You can find it in my Stampin’ Up! online store here.

I coloured my flowers on this card exactly the same. Can you see those cute tiny centres? They are die cut from my favourite speciality paper – the More Dazzle A.K.A Disco Ball Paper or what I like to call it. I love the sparkle that this gives the card.
The other technique that I showed off in the video is the beautiful thread in the background which is actually the Herringbone ribbon which I frayed and coloured with the Berry Burst Stampin’ Blend. I don’t think that there are many projects that I would use the original ribbon on in it’s full width but I love the look of it frayed and I love that you can colour it with a Stampin’ Blend to match any project! It’s so quick and easy and what a simple technique!
a quick look at the inside of the second card
This one is the same as the first card – I just changed out the Designer Series Paper – super cute, easy and effective.
