It was a busy week/weekend this week and I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to make to share with everyone this week but I knew that I wanted to share a sneak peek of something new since I have so many gorgeous new goodies to share! I was itching to play the beautiful new Stampin’ Up! 2024-2026 In Colours that have just been released and will be available in the 2024-2025 Annual Catalogue that goes live to customers on May 1st. My live video was a great opportunity to have a play with these brand new colours and have a play with an easy watercolour technique that let me play with gorgeous new product, the stunning new colours and get a bit messy!
Scroll down to see pictures of all five of the cards I have made and a link to the FREE PDF that will give you all the instructions and a link to the video replay with all the tips and tricks for making this fun project.
finished in colour cards featuring an easy watercolour technique
I couldn’t really choose a favourite when it came to using the in colours because they are just all so beautiful and they even look gorgeous together. When we get new colours in the colours family I love to get inky, messy and have a play. I find that this is my tried and true way of getting to know that particular colour and working out how much I like it, what works with it and how it gels with me.
For this particular card design and this easy watercolour technique using some simple acrylic block watercolour I was easily able to play with colour and get down and dirty with the colours. I wanted to see the colours flow and move on the paper and that I did!
Adding ink to an acrylic block and then misting some water over the top to create a ‘pool’ of ink to act like watercolour and adding it to your paper medium is as easy as this easy watercolour technique gets! You will feel like a pro in no time!
I love that techniques like this also turn out different each time.
let’s talk colour – which is my favourite?
I was honestly amazed by them all but Summer Splash is a winner for me and it was from the very start. There is a hot debate on whether it is a blue or green but it swings towards a blue for me but it really does depend on the light and what you are putting against it.
These finished cards looked so much fun mostly monochromatic in their chosen in colour with a touch of gold added in from the Textured Metallic Specialty Paper. This paper is also a new addition to the upcoming Annual Catalogue and is going to be a new favourite of mine!
pretty in pink card
Pretty in Pink is a delightful new colour and believe it or not is actually a returning colour! We have had this beautiful colour before and I love that it is not too light but not too dark. It really is the ‘perfect’ shaded of pink. It’s not as dark or as rich as Flirty Flamingo either – it’s just a really nice variation to the pinks we already have in the current colour families.
petunia pop card
This colour WOW’ed me! I must admit that I am not a super purple person. I know that is going to be met with some contention from others but it is not a go to colour for me BUT this colour blew my mind! It is different and unlike other purples. I LOVE it. It is rich, vibrant and just ‘POPS!’ off the page.
summer splash card
Be still my heart!!!!! I love this colour so much. There is not much more that I really need to say about it. To me it is the perfect combination between Coastal Cabana (a fave!) and what used to be Bermuda Bay in our collection. I just absolutely adore this colour!
peach pie card
This colour just screams mangoes, summer and all things from my childhood. I love how happy and warm it is! It is such a beautiful and happy colour.
shy shamrock card
This colour is amazing! It has such rich pigment and is so on trend! I see this colour a lot in clothing and so Stampin’ Up! has really hit the trend with this one. It’s such a beautiful deep colour but still pairs well with the bright and happy. Basically…perfection!
a close up look at all the details and the easy watercolour technique and why it is so effective…
Here is a close up look at all five finished cards where you can see some of that detail. I just loved that I managed to get quite a few of the brand new In Colour products on there including the; cardstock, inks, Stampin’ Write Markers, In Colour Glimmer Specialty Paper, Shimmer Gems and that beautiful Bordered Ribbon. When I do something I like to do it well. Play with those in colours – get to know them and what works with them + which ones your artistic brain likes to work with!
I hope that you enjoyed my project this week and will give this easy watercolour technique I have showed a go. It’s a great one for giving a WOW technique a go that only takes a minute but still get a card that looks like you have taken hours!
