One of my favourite parts of attending the Online Stamping Retreat is learning new card folds and techniques from incredibly talented demonstrators. This Expanding Pop-Up Card was a project I created during a class taught by Lisa Curcio, and it’s such a clever and interactive design.

At first glance the card looks like a beautifully layered floral card, but when it’s opened the inside expands to reveal a dimensional pop-up panel that adds both movement and surprise. Fun fold cards like this are always such a joy to create because they turn a handmade card into something really special.

For my version of this project I used products from the gorgeous Stampin’ Up! Lovely & Beautiful Suite, which features soft florals, delicate patterns and coordinating elements that work beautifully for elegant cards.

What makes this design so special is the expanding centre panel inside the card. As the card opens, the mechanism gently lifts the centre section upward to create a dimensional display area.

This section provides the perfect place for a sentiment, decorative elements or even a small message. It’s a lovely way to add a little extra wow-factor without making the card overly complicated.

I love how interactive cards like this feel a little like opening a gift — there’s always that moment of surprise when the structure reveals itself.

For this project I used the Lovely & Beautiful Suite from Stampin’ Up!, which is perfect for creating elegant floral cards.
The patterned paper from the suite creates a soft and romantic background, while the layered floral elements on the front of the card bring everything together. I added a dimensional flower cluster with leaves and embellishments to create a focal point on the front panel.

I created this project during a class at the Online Stamping Retreat, which is always such a fun and inspiring event. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn new techniques, discover new card folds and craft along with other creative people from around the world.

I always walk away from these events feeling inspired with new ideas to try.
