Welcome to another new week, another new Global Design Project challenge and it’s a new sketch this week. This week I want to talk about how to use a sketch in a different kind of way because you may look at the sketch and then look at my card and wonder, what was she thinking?
global design project #GDP414
Here is a look at the beautiful sketch. I love how simplistic the sketch is. How to use a sketch is completely up to the interpretation of creator. You can flip it, reverse it, switch elements around. A sketch is just a starting point. You do not have to follow every elements exactly!
I would love to see what you create this week!

a look at the finished card – how to use a sketch? here is my example of how i used it!
I quite literally flipped it from landscape to portrait! Portrait cards are more my style! I love a good portrait card and I wasn’t feeling like making a landscape card. I changed my elements to suit a portrait style card and flipped the card to suit that style.
How to use a sketch is entirely up to you! You do not have to follow a set of guidelines, there are no rules – you are the rule book!
I was keen to use the beautiful Beary Christmas suite. Have you seen this gorgeous suite yet? Oh my heavens! Adorable. Using the Deckled Circles dies I created the base for my beautiful little focal point elements which are all cut from the Designer Series Paper (did you know there is hardly any stamping on this card?) it is mainly cut elements from the Designer Series Paper??
I did take some strips from that beautiful new Silver Adhesive Backed Glimmer Paper to edge my Designer Series Paper – this gave it that beautiful snowy glittery shine! Perfect!
the colour palette that inspired my card…
a close up look at my finished card
Here you can see all that texture and detail! I did heat emboss my sentiment in white on some Night of Navy cardstock. This is a change from my usual white on black! I love how it turned out.
The beautiful frayed thread is that gorgeous Herringbone thread, I really can’t step away from that. If you don’t have some – you need it in your life. Lastly I finished with some of the gorgeous Adhesive Backed Glitter Sequins from the suite.
a peek at the inside of the card…
Had to have a cute inside. I kept it simple with some blending in Balmy Blue and some left over strips of Designer Series Paper and Adhesive Backed Glimmer with some more of those gorgeous Designer Series Paper critters. How cute is that Arctic Fox?? Using the stamp set, I stamped Merry Christmas in the centre of the card which finished the card.
I really enjoyed sharing a little bit of Christmas inspiration with you today. I hope you enjoyed a few tips about how to use a card sketch.
Don’t forget to head over to the GDP blog and play along with this week’s challenge and use the hashtag #GDP414 when you share your creations.
Until next time, crafty hugs. xx
