The new Perennial Lavender Suite from Stampin’ Up! is a gorgeous mix of purples and luscious greens and even though I don’t gravitate towards crafting with purples, I fell in love with this beautiful suite of products. When I first saw these papers and beautiful lavender images I thought of a flower box and how pretty it would be for them to pop out of the centre of the card and I was really inspired to make a pop up flower box card.
I have seen one of these cards before, and may have even made one, my memory is never that great, haha! It was fun to make this live on my regular Facebook live session last night over on my Facebook page. Be sure to give my page a like so you can join in on Friday’s!
Scroll to the bottom of this post where I have shared a download for the free PDF tutorial where I have shared a template and full instructions (as well as a video replay) both in metric and imperial measurements. Thank you to all those that support my videos as I love to keep providing these and having fun and enjoying this little crafty community with you all!
the finished pop up flower box card
Here is a look at the finished pop up flower box card, well at least the front of the card before you get to the surprise! Isn’t the designer series paper just gorgeous? The rich purple tones are just amazing.
The front of the card looks “full” but surprisingly I didn’t add too much other than a couple of bunches of lavender, a sentiment and some frayed ribbon with one of the gorgeous Paper Butterfly Accents. The Designer Series Paper does the work.

a close up look at the details!
You can see some of the texture and detail here. I showed in the video how I frayed some of that beautiful Lost Lagoon ribbon, I will admit that when I receive a new ribbon I do a “Bow Tying” and “Fray” test. The beautiful texture that fraying a ribbon provides is something that I just love and on this card I have looped some of the frayed ribbon in a circle and allowed it to provide some texture behind my focal point.
I added some of the gorgeous Purple Fine Shimmer Gems in and around the focal points for some shimmer and shine and also added some light blending to the edges of the Paper Butterfly with Berry Burst and a Sponge Dauber.
Adding some Wink of Stella just adds that little extra Glam!
the pop up flower box and all the dimension
Here is where the magic is on the pop up flower box! This is actually quite easy to do! Two simple cut lines and two score lines and you have a pop up flower box.
You can make these any size you want, and you can make them rectangular or square! I loved adding the mixture of stamped images along with the die cuts to vary the colours, textures and tones in the little box. Mixing it up by bringing in some die cuts that were cut with some speciality paper (the Soft Shimmer in Berry Burst) was also another way of adding some extra interest!
a look at the pop up flower in all it’s ENTIRETY
Here is a look at the pop up flower box when the card is laying down flat. The cool thing about this card is that the pop elements folds completely flat!
The more you add into the pop up box, the more dimensional it will be – however it should still fold flat!
You can see here I have included a ribbon closure. This is due to the fact that the card does benefit from having a ‘closure’ of some kind due to it being a little more on the ‘bulky’ side. This is simple to do and a great way of using even more of that gorgeous Designer Series Paper.
Simply cut two pieces of cardstock and Designer Series Paper and wrap a length of ribbon around the card and adhere the two pieces of cardstock over the top.
This will allow you to have a ribbon closure.
the back of the card – even that can be pretty!
Here is a look at the back side of the card.
I love that including the ribbon enclosure gives you the opportunity to add the beautiful Designer Series Paper to the backside of the card as well. This Designer Series Paper has such beautiful colours and designs.
I had a load of fun making this and can’t wait to try it in a few more combinations.
