I have been participating in a chain card swap over the last couple of month’s which I have done previously. Chain card swaps are a lot of fun and based on the idea that you make a card and it gets sent around a ‘chain’ of participants who CASE (copy and selectively edit) and send it on until it reaches back to the original person and may look a little (or a lot) different to the original card.
I will be sharing all ten cards made in the series over the next few weeks so you can see how they turned out. Round one of the chain is by Genna Gifford and the card I CASE’d was by the lovely Cheryl Hurst. I used the gorgeous Thoughtful Expressions and Perennial Lavender Designer Series Paper to create my version.
cheryl’s version of genna’s card
Here is a look at Cheryl’s gorgeous card that she sent that I CASE’d. Cheryl had used the beautiful Shy Shamrock with some stunning glimmer paper. I decided to CASE the layout of the design with the fun odd rectangle layout.
my version of the card for round ten
Here is a look at my finished card using the Thoughtful Expressions stamp and Perennial Lavender Designer Series Paper. This beautiful hummingbird is one of my favourite current stamps, I just adore it! I decided to CASE the layout design of Cheryl’s card which left me a nice spot in the centre for my focal point image. The beautiful purple and pink hues made up the design of my finished card.
a close up of my design
I decided to heat emboss my hummingbird from the Thoughtful Expressions stamp set in black and watercolour the bird with a water painter and some; Fresh Freesia, Highland Heather, Gorgeous Grape and Blackberry Bliss inks. It’s quite a mixture of colours but turned out fun in the end.
To embellish I added some die cut pieces from the Painted Lavender Dies which I have watercoloured in a mixture of purples and Lost Lagoon.
The sentiment was taken from the Thoughtful Expressions stamp set and heat embossed in white on some Blackberry Bliss cardstock.
a look at the inside
I added some more stamping from the Painted Lavender stamp set and a sentiment taken from the Thoughtful Expressions stamp for the inside and finished with a strip of Designer Series Paper from the Perennial Lavender paper.
This was such a fun card to make and I loved CASE’ing Cheryl’s design.
You can see the whole ‘chain’ of card in the series and how the card has evolved below.
I suggest following it in order from number one onwards to see the true progression of the card.
Until next time, crafty hugs. xx
