Follow Your Art ~ Watercolored Card

Want to know how to make a fabulous and fun watercolored stripe card? Read on….

Today I am sharing a fun card using the Follow Your Art Suite of products. This is personally one of my favourite suites from the annual catalogue – it really does call out to all those crafty at heart!

I was inspired by a card shown in the front of the Annual Catalogue which was a mini notecard. I decided to let it inspire me and make a bigger version!

That is my biggest tip for those that feel that they have lost their mojo or need some inspiration…refer back to the catalogues! – they are the perfect idea books!

Quite an array of colours!! But it’s so bright and happy-full!

They are just so bright and so fun.

Here’s my couple of tips to create this card.

Tip 1) I have used Shimmery White Cardstock – this is fantastic for watercoloring because 1) it has some lovely shimmer and 2) it can handle a bit of water when watercoloring.

Tip 2) As you can see I have a bit of bleed, which I personally don’t mind – but it’s best to work one colour at a time and dry with a heat gun in between – and make sure it’s totally dry before adding the next colour.

Tip 3) I have used our Aqua Painters and had a paper towel handy to clean in between colours. The aqua painters are fantastic for techniques like this.

Tip 4) Once this piece is COMPLETELY dry, I have added the silver heat embossing with the sequins. The piece needs to be entirely dry before doing this step.

Tip 5) To distress the edges of this piece I have simply once dry run my bone folder over the front and back of the one corner that I wanted distressed and folded over. You need to do this a few times to break apart the fibres in the cardstock and then it will easily tear apart and fold over. This adds extra texture and dimension.

Here’s a close up of the finished card where you can see how it all came together.

I have used the coordinating dies from the It Starts With Art Bundle to create the borders which I have due cut in Mango Melody, Granny Apple Green and Coastal Cabana. I have then just trimmed these down with scissors to be the perfect size for my card front.

I cut a circle from the Stitched Shapes for my sentiment which I have stamped in Gorgeous Grape.

I did also stamp one of the binder clips which I have coloured with Pool Party and Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blends. I have then further embellished with a paper clip and some felt pieces from the Follow Your Art Embellishment Kit. I love that kit!!!

Here’s a look at my decorated insert for my card.

I have kept this pretty simple with layers of Basic Black and Whisper White.

I have then stamped a sentiment in Gorgeous Grape and stamped a couple of the images from the It Starts with Art bundle and coloured them with Daffodil Delight, Smoky Slate and Pool Party Stampin’ Blends. I have cut these out with the coordinating dies.
