Make a Splash ~ Birthday Card

Hello everyone and welcome back (to) my little blog.

Today is a special day. Why you may ask?

It’s my son Elijah’s sixth birthday today!

I just had to create a handmade card for him, otherwise I think even he would be asking why Mummy didn’t make him one of her ‘special’ cards.

There is a bit of a reason behind this card and why I chose to add that cute fish bowl.

When I saw this stamp set released in the new Mini Catalogue and I had decided what I was buying Mr. Elijah for his birthday, I just knew this would be the perfect stamp set!

Elijah is getting his very first PET! And yep it’s a fish tank that he can fill with those scaly little friends. I can’t wait to see his reaction after school!

I still reminder my first childhood pet, which was a blue budgie named Charlie! I treasured him to bits! So with all that in mind, I took inspiration from the catalogue and created this…

Here’s a look at the finished card.

I went with my good ole’ trusty fave…Coastal Cabana and paired this with some fun and bright colours and that gorgeous Metallic Twine and Sequins Combo that you can get FREE with a $90 order only during Sale-a-Bration. You can check out all these products here.

I wanted to go with a fun and happy birthday sentiment, so I chose to bring in the fun sentiments from the Bonanza Buddies stamp set, which I heat embossed white on black for some extra ‘POP!’

The actual ‘shaker’ component of the card is very easy to make.

All I have done is stamped the fish tank onto the Coastal Cabana layer first and I have actually used my paper snips to cut on the inside of the fish tank, leaving a small border.

After doing this I have actually stamped another fish tank in a stamped off Petal Pink on a piece of Whisper White Thick cardstock that is cut just slightly smaller than the Coastal Cabana piece.

I did this so I could see where I needed to stamp all my fish tank components, like the water level, the gravel and plants/bubbles.

After doing all the stamping, I have backed the fish tank on the Coastal Cabana with some Window Sheet and then also added a fish (stamped in Terracotta Tile) to the white tank (I also stamped and fussy cut one and adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals). Then I have added Foam Adhesive strips all around the back of the fish tank on the Coastal Cabana piece. I have added some of the sequins and then adhered it down to a layer of Basic Black before adhering to the card base.

Keep in mind these are only the directions for the shaker component of the card.

If you want to add twine/tassel and stamping like I have to the Coastal Cabana layer, you need to do all this before adhering on the foam/adding dimension.

Here’s a close up look at my finished card where you can see all the detail.

I added some Gold Glimmer paper for some sparkle behind my sentiment, to really draw to the fact that this is a fun birthday card!

I have then added some Clear Wink of Stella to my bubbles and splattered some over the card for some extra sparkle and shine!

Another fun step that I thought about afterwards would be to add Clear Wink of Stella as the water when you stamp the fish tank contents. I wish I had thought about that at the time!

I love that fun twine also, the sparkle in it is gorgeous!

Here’s a close up of the inside of the card, where I added some more fish elements and another sentiment from the Bonanza Buddies stamp set, stamped in Bermuda Bay.

2) Don’t live local to me but live in Australia? I am happy to set up an ONLINE workshop.
I can create a group and a special host code, and run some fun Facebook live workshops where all attendees still get to see the product in action – and then have the links to order – with all these orders going to your workshop total to spend back on freebies.

All the orders can be submitted online directly by the customer and be mailed directly from Stampin’ Up! to them!
3) Don’t want to have a workshop or party but would like to collect some orders?
Ask me about sending you some catalogues and info sheets that you can hand out and have a catalogue party. Send the orders back to me – and if when I submit them they are over $250 you will also get the rewards and it can all be mailed to you!
