Happy Friday! I always love to hop by and wish the end of the week farewell and share another card with you all. This week at TGIF it is a sketch challenge and what a refreshing and simplistic sketch design it was to work from. It gave me the inspiration to work with a bundle that I have wanted to play with from the Annual Catalogue for a while that is brilliant for those that love the look of ‘fussy’ without the work but also a great sentiment set – and who doesn’t love one of those? I was also really keen to work with mixing paper textures as that is definitely a favourite thing to do of mine and I have a few tips and ideas to share with you today when it comes to what I do when it comes to mixing and playing with paper texture…
#TGIFC433 – this week’s sketch challenge
Here is a look at this week’s sketch challenge. It’s really fun, a great layout and can be interpreted in so many ways.

mixing paper textures – some tips & ideas
When I start creating in my craft room I am like a bower bird…I go for colour and I go for texture!
I like to mix and blend. I think that it creates visual interest, excitement and of course texture!
Here are a few of my tips & ideas for mixing paper textures…
- Don’t be afraid to mix and blend! Shiny and glittery with dull and muted? Perfect! Don’t be afraid to let them compliment each other!
- Matte and shiny – combine the two, in fact it’s a great idea because you don’t want too much of the same!
- I love to mix textures within one element on a project- as shown above you can see behind my sentiment in the little bundle of florals I have added; glimmer, lustre speciality paper and a white centred specialty paper. Let the eyes have a feast!
- Add torn lines with straight lines! Not only is this mixing paper textures but it is also aesthetically pleasing.
- I love to change the textures of papers. In fact one of my favourite techniques is to soften the fibres in the Stampin’ Up! cardstock by running my bone folder back and forth over the front and back of the cardstock and then tear and layers apart like shown in the corner of my cardstock. This looks beautiful as a corner accent and has the appearance of ‘suede’.
That’s just a few of my tips for mixing paper textures or adding texture. There are loads more but just a few to get started.
You will see if you scroll through my blog that a big part of my style includes adding texture and layers to my cards – even mixing it up. Don’t be afraid to just ‘play’. That’s what it is all about.
you make me smile – the finished card
Here is a look at the finished card.
I had so much fun with this one and was pleasantly surprised when I realised how easy these dies are!
When you look at how many ‘little pieces’ look like they are poking out from behind this die – it looks really time consuming – it’s not!
This bundle literally does all the work for you! the dies come in easy to die cut bars that piece together so easily. I loved this.
If you want to see what the Timeless Arrangements Bundle looks like – scroll to the supply list at the bottom of this page and you will see it linked to my online store where you can purchase any of the supplies I have used here today.
I also had a left over alcohol ink technique background left over from my previous project that I made in my project I featured the other day. This was perfect for my project featured here because it featured Berry Burst and Wild Wheat just the colours I needed…
the colour combination the inspired this card…
The colour combination looks a little bit different but works so well together! I actually pulled this combination from the Stampin’ Up! Colour Coach! I love that as demonstrators Stampin’ Up! gives us resources like these ones to help us on our creative journey.
We get a book full of creative colour combinations to assist us with our creative endeavours. Gosh I love being a demonstrator and all the perks.
a little close up look at how good mixing paper textures looks…
A close up look at all that texture and detail!
Now you can see what mixing paper textures really does for a project. I especially love what the white centre cardstock torn on the edges does mixed with that beautiful Bubble Bath Glimmer Paper.
I decided to colour some of the tiny floral images with a combination of the coordinating Stampin’ Blends and better still – they all had coordinating dies! Easy!
To embellish I added some Linen Thread, a Brushed Brass Butterfly and some of the Neutrals Sequins. Beautiful.
a little look at the inside…
I just had to add a pretty inside and so I added some more of those beautiful speciality paper with some more stamping and a gorgeous sentiment.
This card came together so easily and simply.
If you haven’t tried mixing paper textures or playing with different speciality papers – I urge you to give it a go. Don’t hoard them for a rainy day, get them on a project. You won’t regret it.
I hope that you got some inspiration from today’s post.

Until next time, Crafty hugs. xx
