Hello beautiful readers and thank you for stopping by my blog today. I am so excited to be taking part in the FAB Instahop and this month it was all about our favourite musicals.
I actually couldn’t decide between several of my favourite musicals which are; The Lion King, A Star is Born (more of a musical film) or The Wizard of Oz – but in the end I couldn’t go past the idea of creating a magical and colourful big rainbow!
The idea of creating this big rainbow was fun but I wanted to go big or go home and we don’t have any stamps that would allow my idea to come to life – so I decided to try painting with ink! The cool thing about Stampin’ Up! inks is that they are water based and are perfect for watercoloring and painting with, grab a paintbrush or one of our Water Painters and have some painting fun!
#fabinstahop

This month’s theme is all about our favourite musicals as I mentioned above and I have chosen to use the Wizard of Oz as my inspiration for my project.
I decided to included a little inspiration picture to show where some of my main inspiration came from. The first things that I think of when I think of the Wizard of Oz musical is the beautiful Yellow Brick Road and the big bright rainbow. I also just had to add a magical theme for good measure and so you will see that I have incorporated the gorgeous Friendship Royalty Stamp with a fun magical wand!

my finished card – a big rainbow created by painting with ink!

Here is a look at my finished card. When I look at this card I can’t help but think of kindergarten, finger painting, laughter, giggles and just fun! I had fun creating this card! It’s not my usual style but it was fun to make.
To create this card I started with some Fluid 100 watercolour paper and started with my colour palette which I then literally painted my rainbow arches on – so literally was painting with ink! As I said earlier our Stampin’ Up! inks are water based so make it so easy to colour with. Here are some of my biggest tips.
- Add a small amount of water to the Fluid 100 Watercolour paper first before adding your colour, this will allow the ink to flow a little better.
- Dry your colours in between adding them – this will stop the colours bleeding together so much to avoid ‘muddiness’
- Try not to add too much water and over saturate your card, less is more. You can always add more.
- You can add more later after drying if you find your depth of colour isn’t deep enough.
- I am no good at straight lines, being ‘perfect’ or drawing in general so I went with ‘whimsical’ – let go of the idea of being perfect. Let your inner finger painting child be set free. Have fun painting with ink!
the colours that inspired this wizard of oz inspired card…
Of course we just had to have a rainbow theme here. I couldn’t go past a rainbow theme. I grabbed each of these colours out and used each to paint the arches of my rainbow.
a close up look at the finished card

Here is a close up look at the finished card. A part of my inspiration from my Wizard of Oz theme was the idea of the Yellow Brick Road. We do have an embossing folder called the Exposed Brick 3D Embossing Folder and so I used this to tie in this theme with some Lemon Lolly Cardstock – I loved that this helped in a small way included this idea of the yellow brick road. It was a subtle but cute way of the inclusion of this theme.
Lastly I wanted the idea of something magical. After all there is the idea of the ‘wizard’ and so the idea of the wand from the Friendship Royalty stamp set was perfect. I used this with the swirl which I have heat embossed in gold. The sentiment from the Something Fancy stamp set with the everyday magic theme was perfect! It pulled together the idea of magic perfectly!
I really enjoyed pulling together my idea of magic, fun painting with ink and indulging my inner child like artistry and playing with a variety of Stampin’ Up! products and representing my favourite musical on this card!
a little look at the inside – even the inside can be magical

I can’t forget to share the inside of my card so here is a little look. I used some leftover pieces from my card front including a little piece of that ‘yellow brick road’. Look how cute it looks in Lemon Lolly. I have lightly brushed over the top with some Daffodil Delight to highlight that embossing! To finish added some stamping from the Friendship Royalty stamp set and a small stamp from the Something Fancy stamp set.
I hope that you got some inspiration from my project share today. It so much fun with this musical theme today. These challenges that are a little bit out of the ordinary and really get you thinking – they are so much fun! Here is to another month!
