Happy Friday everyone! It’s another TGIF challenge and wow, all I can say is thank goodness it is Friday! it has been one of those weeks. I am feeling particularly tired lately and I think I need a really good dose of some craft therapy or maybe as this challenge suggests – some sunny days!
I really enjoyed pulling out my supplies and having fun with this one because the bundle I was playing with (the Share a Milkshake bundle) is actually new to me, not new to the catalogue, but is one I have been wanting for a while! It was just what I needed for some good ole’ comfort stamping!
I played around with some background stamp ideas and I used a fade out technique where you simply apply ink to the stamp with a Blending Brush and don’t ink the whole stamp.
You will see the effect it gives is gorgeous. See below for more info…
I hope that you get some inspiration from my card this week and be sure to join in, it’s going to be a fun one…
this week’s #tgifc431 challenge
Here is a look at the fun challenge. SUNNY DAYS…what does that mean for you? I was inspired by the thought of ice cream and milkshakes and thought immediately of the gorgeous Share a Milkshake bundle. I couldn’t help but also be inspired by these bright colours! Bright, happy and fun!

you’re the cherry on top – the finished card
Here is a look at the finished card, so bright, so summery and just makes me want to count down the days until Summer arrives.
When I decided that I was using the Share a Milkshake Bundle to make this fun summery sunny day card I also decided that I really wanted to combine it with the Ray of Light background stamp to play around with a fun background stamp technique!
If you can see from the photograph this is a fun technique to play with on this stamp in particular because the ‘rays’ of light fade out. You can do this with any stamp but I find it a particularly great technique to use on large background area stamps to have them fade out slowly, in comparison to stamping a whole solid piece of cardstock. It’s nice to mix things up sometimes. You can also experiment by adding different colours and not just stamping in one colour!
This stamp actually looks fantastic from a composition point of view also because when the focal point of your card sits in that middle aperture the eye is really drawn to that. It’s an excellent design feature!
I really wanted to work on bright, fun and colours that really ‘popped’ on this card so my main colour inspiration was blue, yellow and green but just had to add some pink/red in there for the cherry of course!
the fun colour combination that inspired this card…
A colour combination perfectly paired for a sunny summers day (just what I don’t have right now in my wet and cold winter reality I am living in) – but a girl can dream!
a close up look at some of the finished detail
My favourite bit of this card? Adding the texture paste to those little dollops of whipped cream! It’s subtle and you might not even notice at first. I must admit I sometimes forget about the poor texture paste and it become a forgotten product but for things like this it is perfect! It literally does just as it says and adds texture and gorgeous texture at that!
I have added lots of little finer details on this card including some frayed ribbon from the Herringbone ribbon – this has become a new favourite technique! It is easy to do by pulling the threads apart with your Take Your Pick Tool. I like to colour the individual threads with Stampin’ Blends after I know how many strands I will need.In this case I have coloured them Lemon Lime Twist for a nice and bright look! After colouring I have adhered them behind my milkshake for a little bit of extra texture and fun!
I finished my embellishing off with some die cut hearts cut from the new 2022-2024 Textured Specialty Paper (this stuff is beautiful and has a gorgeous shimmer) and then have added some of the beautiful Tinsel Gems, which coordinated perfectly in Blueberry Bushel!
a little look at the inside
As per usual, a card as fun as this just has to have a pretty inside! I had fun adding some more blended elements but also stamping and die cutting some more bits and pieces for the inside of my card.
The little ice cream sundae bowl in this bundle is just too adorable not to include and so I wanted to include a little coordinating sundae on the inside!
Completed with a “Life is Sweeter With You” the card was done!
I hope that you were able to get some inspiration from my crafty share and learnt some new ideas for maybe using a background stamp. I’d love for you to be able to go and check out the challenge and join in, I can’t wait to see what you make!
