Stripes, now where else could I start? I love stripes. Whenever I see a Designer Series Paper with stripes, I just have to have it. They are a good basic but always a classic!
This week when I saw the challenge I actually thought of the brand new background stamp – Sketched Plaid – doesn’t sound like a stripe does it? BUT…to me, it is a collection of stripes.
I was also thinking about a cool technique that I just love to use when I play with the background stamps and that is multi colour stamping. That is what I wanted to play with when it came to this challenge and what I am going to share today.
Here is a look at the challenge for the week, it’s pretty self explanatory but you never know. See below for the link and please do hop along to the blog because the rest of the GDP team have some amazing projects to share with you to inspire you with this challenge.

The Background Stamp Multi Colour Stamping Technique

I just had to show you how quick and easy this technique is! I love it for so many different background stamps and even stamps in general. It looks fabulous on this Sketched Plaid stamp that I have used today! On the card featured in this post I used a combination of Crushed Curry and Pumpkin Pie (I did softly blend over the top with Lemon Lolly) however in this example above I have used a mixture of Tahitian Tide and Lemon Lime Twist, doesn’t it look amazing?
What I love about this technique is that you can add as many colours to background stamps as you like! You could make a rainbow if you wanted! The stamp that comes to mind that this would look amazing on is the Watercolour World stamp!
Add your background stamp to an F block and you are set to go. I find it really handy to use an acrylic block to help smooth it out and apply even pressure.
Apart from the Sketched Plaid stamp that I have used today here are the other top three background stamps that I think this technique would work really well with:

little baby big love card

Time to have a look at the card that I created.
It’s a different colour combination for me to use this week! No blue and it’s such a masculine card, no blue and no flowers! I can actually say that I am sick! I did create this under the influence of being very unwell. Haha! But I do like it. The cute little lion inspired the design with the beautiful orange/yellow tones and I just had to add a little pop of Lemon Lime Twist for some good measure!
Here is a look at the colour combination for my card:
close UP of the background stamp technique & card

As you can see from the close up of the background there is a very subtle difference with the multi toned stamping. I have used Crushed Curry and Pumpkin Pie with a Blending Brush for my two colours with the background stamp, but then I lightly brushed over the top with some Lemon Lolly.
It’s subtle, but I really like it.
I then finished it off by spritzing some Crushed Curry Stampin’ Write Marker and some Wink of Stella.
The card is then embellished with some Parakeet Party Bakers Twine and some of those adorable Classic Matte Dots in white (but I have coloured them with a Lemon Lime Twist Stampin’ Blends Marker – I love that you can do that!)
P.s. Those dies that come with the Little Dreamers Bundle have the most adorable little stars included which look cute die cut from the No Dazzle paper – if I get a chance I have been squeezing that onto every card possible!!
a look at the inside of the card

Here’s a quick little look at the inside of the card. I have used some leftover die cuts from the card front and stamped another little image from the stamp set. I will admit, I have no idea what this animal is, a racoon? I probably should look that up? It was cute to colour though and added a little extra whimsy and magical to this cute little baby card!
I added some extra stamping and a bit of spritzing with the Crushed Curry Stampin’ Write Marker as well as an additional sentiment stamped in Memento Black.
I have layered my inside layer on some Crushed Curry and added this to my Lemon Lime Twist card base.
I really enjoyed the challenge of creating a card with stripes and pulling out the Sketched Plaid background stamp!
I hope that you were able to get some inspiration from my card share today and enjoyed having a look at my little technique share about multi toned stamping using background stamps. It’s a technique that I love to do a lot.

[…] I was so inspired by Susan’s use of the blue tones and the white ‘sprinkles/spritzing’ in her night sky! How adorable does that look?Straight away I thought of the brand new bundle Little Dreamers. In fact, I actually used it in my challenge project for last week’s challenge.
