I grew up in a family of girls so I am going to put my hand up here and say the theme masculine is not an intuitive theme for me. Fair? Then I had a son and got thrown in Lego, Pokemon and Roblox? Scary! I still do flowers. I wasn’t falling for that trick. Haha!
I do love playing around with masculine cards though and this Chalkboard Technique is an amazing one to use when making a card masculine – it’s an awesome technique to automatically turn something from drab to fab immediately and can make a card – you don’t really have to add much else!
Even better, the Chalkboard Technique is so quick and simple. You really only need a Craft Ink Pad, a Sponge Dauber and some Basic Black Cardstock. In this quick picture reference guide I show a sample with some embossed cardstock for one idea, and the sample that I have shown today with the pirate sails. There are so many ways you can use chalkboard ideas though.

Now to have a look at my card for today. Once I had put together the idea for my sails. P.S. Have you seen these amazing dies? They are builder dies and so quick and easy to piece together and make the most adorable pirate ship. Here is a look at the beautiful dies & you can also purchase coordinating stamps…

Adventure & Excitement Card

Here is a look at my finished card. I really think that watercolored background which is made with a mixture of the beautiful Starry Sky with just a touch of Tahitian Tide (it’s very Subtle) really helps to make the background have that beautiful watercolored look with different tones. Once dry I have spritzed the dried cardstock with some Starry Sky Stampin’ Write Marker. I love this technique of spritzing my cardstock with a Stampin’ Write Marker and think it really helps to add some extra pizzazz to a card. I quite often will also spritz a card with some Wink of Stella, even on a masculine card, who said boys can’t have a little bit of glitter?
Here is a look at the beautiful colour combination that I have used for my masculine card…
I did actually take that watercolour a little bit further on my card and watercolour some scrap Basic White cardstock with some scrap Basic White with the Tahitian Tide. This gave me a piece that I was able to use to die cut my clouds.
Close up of chalkboard technique & card

Here is a close up look at the finished card where you can see a little more of that texture and detail and a close up of that chalkboard technique that I spotlighted in the beginning, doesn’t it look cute? It is definitely a great one for the masculine card! I actually used my Bone Folder to slightly curve the sails and used some Stampin’ Dimensionals to add some dimension to my sails.
I wanted the pirate ship to really be the feature and focal point of the card!
The cute little dies come with all the bits and pieces to build the gorgeous pirate ship so I was even able to die cut that adorable little flag for the top which I have stamped a little skull and cross bones (the larger skull and cross bones on the sail is a die cut).
Lastly I have embellished with some Linen Thread and added a sentiment on some Starry Sky which I heat embossed in white.
Look at the inside of the card

I added just a few elements to my card inside. This time I actually used the pirate ship stamp and stamped in Starry Sky.
I have used some repetitive stamping and kept the inside otherwise relatively simple.
I hope that you were able to get some inspiration from my card share today, and enjoyed a look at a few tips & techniques and a little look at how I use the chalkboard technique and my Craft Stamp Pad. It is definitely a great technique to keep up your sleeve for masculine cards.
