Hello beautiful crafty reader!
Welcome to another blog post from me today where I share with you a card that I have created using my FAVOURITE technique lately and that is sponging! I have combined this with some BRAND new products from the latest Sale-a-Bration product release!
What is Sale-a-Bration? – this is the best time of the year to shop through Stampin’ Up! because you get the rewards – FREEBIES for each $90 you spend! How cool is that!
See the bottom of this post for more details on all the products I have used in today’s post with links to each product, all of which are available to purchase in my store here.
Here you can see the completed card with the sponged background.
I used the gorgeous new Sale-a-Bration Designer Series Paper, Flowering Foils.
This paper is gorgeous because it comes foiled with a white background so you can use it as it is, or you can colour it any colour that you wish!
I use makeup oval sponging brushes to achieve this background look, and they are so handy and apply colour so smoothly, for a really fun background like this that blends so well.
If you search ‘oval makeup brush’ on eBay, Amazon or similar – you can get them really cheap.
Here’s a look at what they look like.
Here are the basic steps to complete this card:
- Cut a card base from Whisper White to your standard card base. I have created a top folding card.
- Cut a Basic Black layer to 10cm x 14.4cm.
- Cut a layer of the Flowering Foils Designer Series Paper to 9.7cm x 14.1cm.
- Taking your piece of Flowering Foils Designer Series Paper and a makeup sponge like pictured, sponge layers of Crushed Curry, Grapefruit Grove and Calypso Coral inks. I find it best to add the ink to the makeup brush by running it over the ink pad in a circular fashion, and working off the card onto some grid paper and then sponging in a circular fashion. When moving between colours, I like to blend lightly between the two to achieve a gradient look. Adhere the coloured piece to your layer of Basic Black, and adhere to your card base.
- Take a Basic Black Stampin’ Write marker and ‘spritz’ some ink from the marker by using the brush tip end and the lid to flick the ink.
- I have now stamped one of the images (as shown) from the Tags in Bloom stamp set in Memento Black on some Whisper White Thick cardstock. I have then coloured the flower images with a mixture of Crushed Curry, Calypso Coral and Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Blends, fussy cut this out. I have also stamped, coloured and fussy cut out some of the singular flowers.
- Apply some Snail Adhesive to the bottom left of your card, where the sentiment/focal piece will be and use this to adhere down some of the Crushed Curry Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon. I like to use it so it layers three times. Adhere you coloured and fussy cut large piece from the previous step over this with your choice of adhesive (I have used Liquid Glue).
- Stamp another label (as shown) from the Tags in Bloom stamp set in Memento Black on a scrap piece of Crumb Cake Cardstock. Punch this out with the Label Me Lovely Punch. Adhere this over the top of your previous piece with Stampin’ Dimensionals. You can also now adhere your flowers that you fussy cut where shown over the label with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
- Stamp the ‘I Miss Your Face’ sentiment in Versamark on a scrap piece of Basic Black Cardstock and heat emboss in white. I have then fussy cut this out and adhered with Liquid Glue where shown.
- Finally embellish the card with some of the Holiday Rhinestone Basic Jewels.
- If you wish, you can add some spritzes of Wink of Stella over your card.
- Decorate the inside of your card if you wish. I have added a sentiment and some stamped flowers which I have also coloured with Stampin’ Blends.
Here you can see a close up of the finished card where you can see all the details up close.
I have been a little bit obsessed with heat embossing sentiments in white on black cardstock at the moment, so I apologise in advance for all the cards you will see/have seen with this technique.
As you can see with the Flowering Foils DSP, it is embossed with a metallic design, meaning that it resists the ink when using techniques like this, really making the paper shine!
Here you can see my decorated inside to my card where I have added layers of Basic Black and Whisper White with some simple stamping and some additional colouring with Stampin’ Blends to coordinate with the front of the card.
I hope that you enjoyed today’s post and got some inspiration for using these brand new Sale-a-Bration products.
